I finally got the family out of the house long enough to get some playing time in tonight, and spent some time with my new (old) Fender Bassman 4x12 cab. I mic'd it up with a Shure 57 to see what kind of tone I could get.
This is a quick run through a guilty pleasure of mine, "Stomp!" from The Brothers Johnson album "Light Up The Night". Louis Johnson is one of my favorite funk/disco players. This is the first take I did, and I realize there are some errors. And before it even comes up: YES, I KNOW I'M NOT PLAYING THE SLAP SOLO CORRECTLY! There are two parts going on there, neither of which are that strong in my opinion, so I just sort of did my own thing.

good playing but I can't help but notice you got that flea style placement of your hands when you slap. Seems like everyone has been doing that lately.

makes me wanna practice a little more, how did you learn playing? i mean have you learned from tabs, by ear or how? what do you recommend?

I learned mostly on my own, partially from books but mostly from listening and learning tunes. It's equally important to learn by ear and by reading - both skills are indispensable. Tabs are worthless.
