This kind of musical comedy is far more interesting than most "humorous" TV or films - because it is Art! Awesome!

@SgtRuttersClubBand They are all great musicians in real life Neil Innes, Ricky Fataar and John Halsey. Eric Idle only play the piano from what I know. Or....

This is the greatest mocumentary ever made...
The tunes are great, the back stories are pure comic genius.
I would love to start a Rutlemania band !

This is all true. The biggest conspiracy of all time. The Beatles copied The Rutles. I was there with my cousin Colin. Colin could put a whole mars bar in his mouth and still snog his girlfriend Sharon. Sharon was a tart and although she said I set fire to her knickers she was a liar.

Not enough people know about this.

I think it was the trousers...

Forget the Beatles. This IS the music that inspired OASIS!!!

This is a very well documented documentary about this world famous popular music quartet; I live in hope that they will re-unite some day, but because Dirk established the Punk Floyd after the Rutles sadly split, I fear that they will never play together again.

This is comical genius. Any fan of comedy must see this at least once.
Was this an actual movie that got a lot of publicity at the time, or was it just a little side project that Eric Idle and the other guys did?

@MontyPythonFan55 It was a Rutland Weekend Television sketch turned into a made for tv movie that bombed in its first airing, later got better publicity from a SNL sketch.

Are all these songs original or are they actual beatles songs with different lyrics?
Squadillah 11 months ago
@Squadillah Depends on the song, "Get up and go" "Double Back Alley" and "OUCH!" was almost a exact replica of the Beatles song with new lyrics, "Back in 64" and "Major Happy" give a similar vibe and tune, but are different or add elements of other songs. "Living in hope" "Shangri-la" "Hold My Hand" and "Questionnaire" Combine a lot of songs into almost a medley. "Now She's Left You" and "Unfinished Words" are mostly Beatle sounding. Check the descriptions of the songs i posted for more info.
