The Abduction of Elizabeth Canning, by Steve Bond
Performed at LSE Old Theatre, 8 & 9 Feb 2010
Kate Hayes as Susannah
Callum Hassal as George
Directed by Sarah Haq
Opening scene of the second act, in which George visits Susannah in Newgate prison. The story so far:
George's mother Mary has been convicted of abducting a young woman, Elizabeth Canning, primarily on the testimony of a prostitute called Virtue Hall. Virtue worked for Susannah, who is now also in prison for running a brothel. Susannah conspired with Virtue to make sure that Mary took the blame for the abduction - something she believes George to be ignorant of.
