This short film shows how I setup the pole horizontally before using the chainsaw to spin and cut it.
To get it started, you must manually give it the first spin. If the beam is not already spinning, the saw will just cut the wood. Watch the action of the chainsaw in the video clip entitled chainsaw lathe. Do not forget to read the Info section of that video clip for safety measures.

Letter to North American Chainsaw manufacturers:
To North American chainsaw manufacturers.

Today, I am sending this message because I want you to forward it to the corporation executives.
I have pioneered an "INDOORS" use for small less powerful chainsaws. I believe that there is a huge market for Chainsaw lathes. I posted a video clip of the same name on Youtube "Chainsaw Lathe." Please view the video clip entitled "Setup for chainsaw Lathe" first:

The bad news is that The Chainsaw Lathe video clip look dangerous. The good news is that it is a safe operation that can be transformed to be the safest thing that you can do with a chainsaw. All that is needed it the proper attachments that will let you set a range that will define the minimum and maximum depth of the cut. Other features that will allow you to trace the contour of the column that you want to duplicate can also be built. Instead of holding the chainsaw, the human operator will likely be guiding the cut from a safe distance away by gliding the long tip of a lever over the profile of the original column that is being copied. Closer to the pivot (axle of rotation), that long lever will hold the chainsaw.
Without practice, I built, shaped, four of these columns over the years (one every 3 to four years).

I have too much going on to tackle such a task on my own. By example I have just found a cheap and simple way to build a fifteen feet tall vertical axis windmill, cheaper than a small 4.5 feet version. However, the video clips that I post on Youtube are original. I post them the same day, or the following day after I complete the first prototype. They represent my lab work. I would like to build that tall vertical axis wind turbine today. But, I have no place to locate it. You can understand that I could not possibly be building attachments for a chainsaw lathe attachment in my basement. If I do, I will let you know. The possibilities are as follows: "Chain sculptor or chain chisel etc." I can see a whole line of specialty chains. I can see a whole line of specialty chainsaws. I am available to help you build chainsaw lathe attachments. I could also use access to a location where I can test large windmills.

I hope that you can see the potential.
Please read all the documentation that I added to the video clips. The video clip shows my left hand spinning the beam, while I held the small saw with one hand. Well, If I had to do it over and my goal was to display a safe operation, I could simply give the beam a good spin before I get that electric saw to turn and make contact with the spinning beam. However, when the beam comes to a stop, it is obvious that the chainsaw functions as a saw (only) and just cuts the wood. Without the momentum created by the first manual spin,
we just have a chainsaw cutting wood in a static position. Static wood cutting has the danger of kickback built in. When the wood is spinning, cutting is less dangerous.

Have a good day!
