    Unfortunately sometimes that is not the case. However once brought here by a film they will stay for the quality of the song its own sake. I remember the orignal but this cover introduced me to the singer who I had never heard of before and he is good.

    Covers and songs use in TV and film can get more people interested in the originals. I have friends who got into Dolly Parton after hearing the Whitney Houston cover, and they love Dolly now.

    I know this cover made it more famous but my point was that this cover was a huge hit by itself, whereas the film was only a minor success at the box office. I thought the song was known by more people for it's own sake than for being in the movie.

    Because that is what brought this to the fore. Before then and this cover it was more a British thing from Tears for Fears. This and the film took it international.
