Nome's new 18-turbine wind farm was shut down in May after a manufacturing defect was discovered in a batch of turbines shipped from Entegrity Wind Systems in Canada's Prince Edward Island province. Officials say the problem has nothing to do with Nome's cold and windy climate. Financially troubled Entegrity has so far been unable to ship the needed parts. Nome is hoping to have the wind farm back online before winter; it can provide up to 10 percent of the city's electricity.
