Because the cord ends up how it was before tying it up in the first place. So if it was twisted before using this knot, then it will be twisted when you undo it.
@WilliamsRuss THIS. It looks crazy, and looks like the whole bundle'll just end up coiling up and knotting but it NEVER does. I've literally had 40-ft extension cords be bundled this way for a year and come out of a shed perfectly.
This is also awesome when dealing with those long orange extension cords that are longer than you need, you can only pull out as much slack as you need, don't have to undo the entire cord every time just to use it (and heat's not as much an issue as on a reel either)
Its called a parachute knot, used to tie up parachute lines in the old days, to undo you just pull it. We also use it for bridles on kites to stop knots.
Before he made the knot, I honestly thought he was just going to keep folding the cable in half, over and over until he had it in a pile.

@boxkites well, let me ask you this bxkites, how often do you twist the cord? everyday, everyweek, every month?

@golftrailsucks No, never had that problem.

Hope that helps
