No, you're talking bollocks. I am fucking intelligent by the way, so the use of language is not always indicative of one's IQ.
Anyhow, many TV programmes in the early '80s, especially TotP, would only have bands that mimed to the record because the turnaround was much quicker than if each band had to set up their own equipment. It wasn't seen as being the easy option, merely just a way of seeing the band and their style on TV. OGWT had live acts.
