Dragon Quest III - And Thus Into Glitches...

This is a video I made showcasing several glitches/bugs/errors (that, in some cases, are pretty severe) in Dragon Quest Translation's version 1.1 English translation patch that I've found while playing the game.

Please excuse the pitch fluctuations in the audio, and also the quite abrupt edits that were made to shorten the video a little.

Also: Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior's rights belong to Enix (or at least they did at the time this game was made), not I.

Now that the obligatory disclaimer is out of the way — on with the narrated list of blunders!

First: the Adventure Log selection screen. When saving the game with a character other than the Hero in the lead of the party, the name on the Log will be four black blocks. I don't know why.

Next, the appraisals, starting off with the Garter Belt ( 0:22 ):

"It is usable only by men."
Somewhat factually accurate. Back in medieval times, it was the men who wore the hose — and thus, the garters.
However, that's not how it works in the game — only female characters can equip the Garter Belt.

"It has a mysterious power."
I'm honestly not sure what to make of that — I'm assuming it's a goof, but I'm not entirely sure.

"You will not be able to sell this either."
this is the first item I've appraised; I think you need a comma between 'this' and 'either.', missy! :O

"Selling this would be a waste. It's only worth about 975 gold."
Wait a second! Didn't you just say that I wouldn't be able to sell this??

"[blank textbox that doesn't auto-advance]"
Huh, that's weird.

Anyway, now for the Golden Crown ( 0:45 )!

"The Golden Crown is a shield."
WHAT

Also, what's up with the names in these appraisals? Katara's name is completely cut-off! It should be on the second line of text!

"Hmm, it seems to be cursed."
I'd have to agree with you there, actually — except it really is NOT cursed. I hate that king of Romaly, though! xD

"Selling this would be a waste. It's only worth about gold."
So what you're saying is, the Golden Crown is worthless? I couldn't agree more — too bad this version of the game doesn't have the Vault, so that you can keep it away from the King of Romaly PERMANENTLY! :D
Because, well — you can't actually SELL the Golden Crown.

That's probably the last one in the Appraisals category, by the way — so I guess I'll just finish this section up with this: THE FUR HOOD ( 1:07 ) DOES NOTHING. Except give you more defense. It has no 'mysterious power' (wooOOoOoOOOooOoooo). None. My merchant is an imbecile! :O

Let's just head on over to the monster pits, and maybe lose some moolah — all in the name of GLITCHES!
Also, just a note: to get the ALL-CAPS SHOUT TEXT, hold the B button during the fight. Also, the shouting announcer makes a typoe ( 3:13 ). He says different things depending on whether or not the monster you bet on is still alive.

In the fight with the Demon Toadstool, Masked Moth, Mummy Man and Wild Ape, after the Demon Toadstool loses ( 5:45 ), I press the B button to get the 'Abort Match' text — don't blink, because it automatically advances (as do Goof-Off-only moves :( ), and I have the text-speed on maximum-speed.

Well, now that I just lost 240 gold pieces, I guess I'll just show off the next grammatical error I've found among many: the Tidy Items error ( 6:17 ). It should be "Put away all unequipped items." With a period, not a question-mark.

This error also appears when using Tidy Items on just single characters ( 2:27 ).

And now, for the penultimate glitch/bug: the SAVE BUG ( 6:56 ). I have no idea what triggers it, only that it seems least likely to happen if you save on the Adventure Log you loaded up. I also don't know if anyone other than the old fogey at Dha(r)ma does it; he's just the first one I found it at.

As you can tell, it also seems to happen on any adventure log, so. ¯\(º_O)/¯

I unfortunately managed to run into a worse version of the save bug. It made my game spew gibberish for a while like yours, but eventually it overflowed, dumped a bunch of garbage text, and locked up. I uploaded a video of it on my account.

Garter Belt can only be used by men? I thought this was Dragon Quest III, not the Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert.

A friend of my find a bug were if you talk with some woman later on wen you get the magic key she will just give trash test and frezze the game, he never tellme were is the woman so be careful.

im running into a very bugged out text glitch in dq2 using zsnes part of the words dissapeaer and even some of the box behind the text dissapeared on me just randomly anyway to fix it O.o

the hats are called shields because they raise defense. im not sure, but this looks like a fan translation. if so, they may have just put it through a translator, which could cause the confusion.
