so in a population of 70 million about 1000 women are killed by their relatives (it was 60 per year 8 years ago, so the 1400% increase). How many women in the US are killed by their husbands? I bet it is way higher than 5000. So the US is no better. This is not a muslim problem, it is rather a Kurdish problem. Honor killing almost unheard of among ethnic Turks. Big majority of these killing occur among Kurdish people.

@thatsanna there are controversies....Christians aren't doing much because they don't have the power as in the middle ages--let the tea party get power in the US and let them have freedom to do everything at their will and you will see if Iran won't look like a much better place.

The people who carry out and implement this tradition of "honor" form the vast voting base of the current Turkish government. I very much doubt that the government would do anything to irritate the main source of its "democratic mandate." Any action to deal with this issue of "honor" murder is just political histrionics.
