The Coalition Against Police Crime and Repression held a press conference on Feb. 1, 2006 outside of the building which houses City of Maplewood's City Hall and Police Department. The Coalition called for the firing of all of the officers involved in Monday's beating of Mr. Edmun Burns. The incident was captured by a cameraman in a KTVI helicopter and broadcasted live on Channel 2 morning news. Attorney's for Burns said that he was still recovering from his wounds. His father attended today's event.

Zaki Baruti, the co-chair of the Coalition, said that the officers, which included at least one St. Louis City officer, used excessive force by continuing to beat Burns while he was already subdued. "They should be charged with assault with intent to kill," said Baruti.

  • ST. LOUIS 02.03.09— The criminal corruption cases against Bobby Lee Garrett, 48, and Vincent T. Carr, 46, two St. Louis police officers, have thrown more than 1,000 criminal convictions into doubt, state and federal prosecutors say. The FBI arrested Garrett and Carr in December on a 10-count indictment. The cases against them have already caused the St. Louis circuit attorney's office to drop 47 pending cases, including 41 felonies.

  • its funny how everyone says stuff like this about the police then later in life they call the police to help them. people are so ignorant. you should be happy we have the police. if you dont like it leave the country. Go to Kenya and say something about the police. you'd get to mid sentence then get killed or a beating for even saying i hate the police.
