Isn't Democracy defined by fair Elections, the Rule of law, and the protection of Minorities? Elections are not fair since some minorities are forced at the gunpoint to vote. Rule of law is not for the high up, since no body in the high up been put in jails in 60 years of Corrupt India. Minorities (Christians, Muslims, Sikhs and Dalits) are not safe.
Just for the information of Americans:
Indian President, Indian Upper House Members(Senators), Indian States Governors are NOT ELECTED, but APPOINTED. Any States legislatures can be dismissed (fired) and ruled directly by the Federal Government. Do you know that the present famous Prime Minister (Manmohan Singh) was never elected, but was appointed by Congress party chief.

During a speech by Dr. Albright in Georgetown University, Washington, DC in September 2006, on her recent book"The Mighty and the Almighty",a question was asked about the undemocratic behavior of Indian Government. Question and the answer is presented here. You be the Judge.

India were ruled by Mughals for almost 700 years and British for 250 years. Both of them didn't do anything to the eradicate bad customs in the society,even though they had many benefits from India. India's Prime Minister is Sikh. He took the office after a Roman Catholic woman of Italian birth was elected Prime Minister. He was sworn in by a Muslim President, who was preceded by a Dalit & succeeded by a woman.

America has only had white, male, Protestant presidents - save for the Catholic JFK. This is the first time that the House Speaker is female. People are amazed by the idea of black/female Presidential candidates. A good proportion of Americans are intolerant of blacks & Hispanics.
