For the whole story visit http://grapplearts.com/logsplitter-sweep.html - this is footage from the 2002 Can-Am Police- Fire Games in Spokane Washington, where I accidentally discovered the 'Logsplitter' position for the first time.

  • @kforcer BTW, I guess what I would mean would be, an additional no-gi instructional, perhaps. I have trouble translating the step-by-step gi instructional on the logsplitter to my no-gi game, which is, as it happens, my only game...

  • Stephan, I end up in this position fairly often--is there anyway you could do an in depth photo instructional on your site regarding this move? I'm having a little trouble dialing in all the nuances of the position

  • @ph33ric Yes, rolling to your back and giving up the sweep is pretty much the only way to relieve the pressure of the calf crush once it is locked in. Check out Stephan's full write up at the link he provides above for more details.

  • @LionPrideBJJ i c what u mean now.... but after re watching it.... im not seeing how he got the sweep. or did he roll to relieve the calf crush?

  • @ph33ric

Although this may seem like it's close to the 50/50, it's actually a very different position. The 50/50 has your opponent's leg crossed over your body with your own legs triangled to the outside. This position has your opponents leg crunched between your shin and your thigh/hip area, applying a calf crush and preventing him from straightening or posting his leg to that side. That's what makes it so effective as both a sweep and a submission.

Same tech, evolved independently, works great, hurts like hell!

  • @xNewAgeWarriorx I eventually did. But the guys were too proud to admit it was a decent tech. even tho I`d just swept them with it over and over. I guess I won`t be showing them anymore of my stuff, lol.

  • @paolo27th Common man share your info with people. They will return the favor eventually.

  • Share the knowledge m'lad. It forces you to get better.
