In this video I do the first boil test with my Froup (FRuit + sOUP) stove using 30 ml of denatured alcohol. Funny, I had a bunch of people asking if this stove would work with alcohol.

The pot stand is made of 1/2" square hardware cloth, three squares high.
Can info:
Soup Can (inner) - 10 3/4 oz - 2.55" O.D. x 3.97" High
Fruit Can (outer) - 14 1/2 oz - 2.89" O.D. x 4.41" High
Possible alternate inner can:
Tomato Sauce Can - 8 oz - 2.59" O.D. x 2.98" High

  • I'd like to see you do the same test with the Everything nice stove and "30 ml of denatured alcohol" with 3 X High Hardware Cloth.

  • Wow man. Just completed the whole series. It was very informative. Found you through rainbowhiker. I've got a similar setup i play with on my channel. Maybe you could weigh in? Thanks for sharing.

  • Hey Hiram, I've done the same test with a felt filled (rolled) tealight can, centered in the inside Can as shown. 15ml of 180 proof alcohol, boiled 2-cups (68 deg) of water in 4 minutes/elevation 2500 feet).

  • Haven't seen any new vids. Hope all is well.

  • @hiramcook hey got a tip the other day I wanted to share with you about soda can alcohol stoves.

Tip: turn the can over (upside down) and use the bottom of the can for holding solid fuels. ie: esbit

  • Next I'll play with Perlite as insulation for the heat exchanger can. Tin foil pie plates with perlite inside, place on top of ss can and see if I can increase Delta T between in and out pipes... was reading that 8 parts vermiculite, 1 part portland and some water creates a heat proof stucco insulation for pizza ovens... another idea...

  • One day I'll have the equipment to post vids... recently I installed an extra hot water circuit to my 30 gal propane water heater. I have a 12VDC 6 watt pump pumping water from drain outside through 3/4" copper pipe to a 5/8" tube coil then back tank at the T/P valve. I covered the coil with a stainless steel can (probably 3 gallon size), I also plumbed an extra T/P valve at exit of 5/8 coil heat exchanger 4 safety. Heat w can gasifier and heat gun blower on cool.68 F to 120 F w 3 hrs burn.-john

  • Yes!! Cooking vids with various stove types!!!

  • Enjoyed the variations of these tests. Thanks Max, and you too, Hiram.

  • Can you post some vids of you actually cooking some meals with the stove?; boiled hot water meals are good but some frying pan or small pot vids would be great?

    Thanks,

    Snappy
