  • Hi Thanks for watching. The comments that I have made below (Funnyshin) explain most all of the important stuff. Don't miss this trip. The scenery really doesn't start until you leave Ft Nelson, then hold onto your hats. It is gorgeous all the rest of the way. Buy the latest "Milepost" book the month before you leave. The road is an easy paved drive, with no scary parts, it is mostly thru the valleys. There are enough gas stations, motels and camping facilities all along the way.

  • Is it feasible to drive from Washington state to Alaska by motorcycle? Are there enough gas stops. I have a street glide harley & 6 gallon tank & get about 48 mpg.

  • Oh yes, we saw many motorcyclists and motorcycle groups along the way. And there are many gas stations too. You have about a 250 mile range and gas stops are about 50-80 miles apart. There are 2 roads to go up there from WA, one is the AK Hwy and the other is the Cassier Hwy, which meets up with the AK Hwy. I have been told that the Cassier Hwy is not paved and bumpy for a lot of miles, I would recommend the AK Hwy out of Dawson Creek. Buy the Book "Milepost" (2010 version)for all gas stops.

  • i'm going to travel to alaska from new jersey in a jeep commander, it gets about 20 mpg on the highway if even that, is there enough gas stations on the alaska highway for me to fill up or do i have to bring a full can of gas?

  • There are enough gas stations, but never let your tank get too low. I always filled up the RV at about 1/2 tank (@10mpg). Gas stations are 50 -100 miles apart. For cheapest gas fill up in US before crossing to Canada. Alberta has cheaper gas than BC, and Yukon the highest. Never pass thru Anchorage or Fairbanks without topping off. Buy the 2010 version of the book "Milepost", usually comes out in March or April. They list everything along the way. Don't use older versions, gas stations close..

  • is this easy to travel. I heard that for 500 miles or so it is not paved.

  • Thanks for watching. The Alaska Hwy is paved all of the way, except in some very short road construction areas. There is another road you can take to AK which is in Western BC. It is called the Cassier Hwy. That still has a few hundred miles of gravel road. I will be posting part 2 of our trip in a day or 2, "Touring AK", then I will follow up with Part 3 which is the Alaska Marine Highway, (Ferry System), thru the inside passage. If you are planning a trip up I can give you lots of tips. Jim

  • @k9eddt Yes DO IT!!! I've done 4 round trips. Ready to do it again.

  • @bubbawclark In 1974 I rode a Honda 250 up the Alaskan Hwy. from Port Angles Wa., to Fort Greely Ak. I never ran out of gas. Beautiful trip wish I hade taken more than 61/2 days to make the trip.

  • @FunnyShin The milepost is a lifesaver.

  • @FunnyShin Yeah true after Fort Nelson the scenery really shows. And for those who cant travel there always is google street view lol.

  • Nice Video. I did a solo bicycle tour from Fairbanks to Florida in 2008 and The Alaskan Highway was absolutely amazing to experience. It was worth the challenge and effort for its beauty alone.

  • Hey great vidio, love that song by Johny Horton, i was like 15 when he made that song, now you can guess my age lol

  • I've been thinking about taking the family up the ALCAN. Any advice you'd give the driver?
