Happy New Year!

This is an ensemble I put together with some friends to cover and experiment with the music of the 70s fusion group "Mahavishnu Orchestra". It's very challenging music to play, as it's a mixture of jazz harmony with rock tone and Indian rhythms.

This is a tune off of their debut album "The Inner Mounting Flame". The whole tune is in 7, but with a major change of groove between the two different sections.

The band is as follows:

Aline Homzy - Violin
Felipe Debastos - Guitar
Andrew Kesler - Keys
Spencer Rayner - Bass
Tristan Henderson - Drums

You can download high-quality mp3s of our entire set for FREE from this link: http://www.filedropper.com/showdownload.php/mahavishnuexperience-performancew...

This is footage from our set at Humber College on Dec. 2/10. It was filmed by my sister Sarah. The audio was edited by Tristan (with pointless suggestions by myself) and I edited the video. Sorry that the colours and brightness are all screwed up, my camera doesn't handle stage lights well :S

Thanks for watching. Feel free to comment, rate and subscribe. Unfortunately, all of my videos are completely different, so if you're looking for continuity, I'm not your man. However, I try and put forth the best product possible, whether it be various styles of music, or playing different instruments.

  • Nice one! I really like the "Mahavishnu Experience"! Great job!

oh, and can you upload more rock-funk covers by "Punching Abraham?" i just can't stop listening to your cover to "Nardis"! i sent it to my Jazz band and now we are playing it like that! :D

(By the way, you still didn't messaged me back! :O)

  • @TheLotanos Thanks man, unfortunately "Punching Abraham" was just a band I put together short notice because I had some extra time in the studio, haven't played with that particular group of guys since. Glad you're playing Nardis that way tho! nice Harry Potter Cover!

  • Man, I hope you end up making your mark and millions $ in the music industry. You are extremely blessed and talented.

  • @fredthejunkman Thanks Fred, It would be my dream to make a mark (a good one) in music sometime in my life. No idea what will happen, but as long as I have great support as I do now, I'm happy as a clam!

  • This is absolutely wonderful! This group is unbelievable! I listened to all four tracks. Everybody is excellent, committed, and understood the spirit of the music, with the added touch of today's technology and sounds. Coming from a new generation of skilled and talented musicians. The violin solo is "wicked" as noted! But everybody can play! What an accomplishment! Congratulations! Can't wait to see or hear what you guys, individually or as a group will come up with next!

  • NIce job guys, two thumbs up from the Birds of Flame!

  • WICKED YES INDEED!

  • @AndrewKesler @AndrewKesler OH yeah, I see what you mean :P I think it was your style of playing that made me think it was 4/4... The "Feel" was like in a 4/4, if you know what I mean... And sorry for my lack of english skills, Im danish :)

  • @UrsusArctoz Actually it's still in 7 the whole time, in the more "upbeat" section just count 7 quarter notes, or i guess it is also 14 eighth notes, which feels like 2/4 with one extra beat every 3rd bar.... yeah, lol, i dunno if i understand what i just wrote
