It was technically a guess but the evidence for them doing cocaine is very low while the evidence of them NOT doing it is incredibly high. The difference here is that YOU'RE guessing with no real foundation while I'm guessing with a lot of evidence.

I know Dave did. I remember hearing an interview with Dave; he said when he got out of rehab he was playing with Metallica who (as a joke, without knowing he was recently out of rehab) were pretending to do lines of cocaine back stage with sugar. If they ever did drugs, I doubt they'd pretend to do them for a joke.

Also Master of Puppets was about hard drugs and James mentions his surprise at becoming an alcoholic despite never being addicted to anything. I very VERY much doubt it.
