Kevin Garnett Blocks/Goaltends Shots Even After Whistles

They finally did a feature about this -- aired on ABC on March 14, 2010 during halftime of the Celtics-Cavaliers game -- but any KG fan knows that Kevin Garnett has been doing this for years. He's the originator of a tradition that is now often called "The Garnett," and is copied by other players.

Essentially, KG doesn't want to let his opponents have the psychological edge or confidence derived from seeing a dead-ball fall through the net, so he goaltends and snatches everything down after the whistle.

@ElDiabloWhoppo No, I never said Barkley or Lambieer ever goaltended a shot. I'm just saying that they were assholes as well. Garnett chooses who he is an asshole too because he is trying to get an advantage. Dirk is also probably one of the guys that nobody talks shit too because he's so indifferent. I've never seen Dirk get a tech or be an angry motherfucker. But Garnett bad mouths Kobe and others. I do the same thing (not to the same level) just to see if I can get under their skin.

Goaltending after a shot doesn't show he's tough, have you even played basketball? Barkley NEVER did it, Laimbeer NEVER did it, they did their thing within the game not during dead ball situations.

I like that now he's getting owned, like the old saying of "be nice on the way up...."

@ElDiabloWhoppo Well... when did playing basketball or playing in the NBA have to be nice and cozy. Garnett brings back the old school style of play. He isn't there to be friends with you, he's there to stop you and to win. If that means being an asshole he doesn't mind that. Lots of people were assholes like Garnett is back in the day. Charles Barkley, Lambieer. I like that in a player, shows he won't back down.
