Doukas BTEC Foundation in Art & Design
Challenging is the best word to describe the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Doukas. Offering invigorating, flexible and inspiring full-time and part-time courses with the chance to integrate GCE and IB levels alongside the Foundation studies, what makes this course so unique is the emphasis we place on students.
Coming from a wide variety of backgrounds, from high school students to high school graduates with very little prior arts education, the Foundation is an intense experience of exploration and discovery. Indeed, this is one course in which transformation and the realization of hidden talents becomes the rule, as opposed to the exception. Students are pushed to realize their creative potential, develop their independence and nurture their confidence in preparation for higher education in the United Kingdom.
Guided by or dedicated team of tutors, who specialize in Architecture, Ceramics, Fashion/Textiles, Glass, Graphic Design, Historical and Contextual Studies, Metal and Fine Art, Public Art and Photography, the results speak for themselves. The Doukas Foundation is highly-regarded by our external Edexcel examiner who assesses our students every year, who describes the work she has seen from our 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 students as equal to those she assesses in the United Kingdom.
The journey our students take is filled with surprises, where their continued studies into the arts leads to unexpected outcomes. This is one of the core elements of the course: only through taking risks and delving into the unknown can one truly come to know their creative talents. As with all creative endeavours, the management of one's abilities requires discipline, commitment and perseverance; qualities we ask from all our students, and ones that will serve them well in the future.
This is by no means an easy task and as such, requires students capable of keeping up with the demands of the course. Those who do, can expect the experience of a lifetime!
