With the release of the Apotos and Shamar Adventure Pack, we finally get to play in the unused portion of the night level. However, unlike the previous packs, this is listed as act 2 instead of act 1-2.
Regardless of the reason, I decided to see if you could get back to act 1 from where you start. Turns out, you can! There aren't any objects loaded, nor does the camera pan like it usually does. but it's the same layout. Because of this, however, you cannot make it back to act 2 if you go too far.
Another interesting thing about this act is Sonic Team blocked off the route to the collapsing pillar (makes sense, though, since you never cross over to act 1 at any time). However, this area can still be accessed through act 1's area. There are three things here: a row of vertical flamethrowers and two breakable chests. Obviously, Sonic Team had intended for you to reach here somehow. The odd thing is that the pillar is not there anymore.
Information about the trick used in this vid (taken from DarkspinesSonic's video descriptions):
In order to go through walls or the floor, you must perform the follwing combo, followed by guarding...
For 360, XYY followed by guarding
For ps3, square-triangle-triangle followed by guarding
The timing of your guard depends on what will happen. You want to guard when werehog finishes the spinning part of his breakdance like attack. If you time it correctly, you can go through most any wall. If you time it too late, you'll go through the floor (which can be useful in some places, but usually you just fall to your doom). Enjoy!^_^
Really cool video! I guess this doesn't work on the Nintendo Wii version. I should beat this game soon.

Since the Wii version's levels are entirely different, it's not possible for it to work.
However, one thing that's interesting is, at the end of some night levels on the Wii version, you can see the beginning of the next act. As for if you could go back there, I'm not sure. You'd have to use "hammerboosting" at the right spot to be able to get out of bounds, though 99% of the areas in the game haven't been tested.
