Torgac, 4/18/2010 ...........Torgac Cave contains an impressive display of gypsum speleothems. The branching stalactites and helictites are so distinctive that the cave is the type site of Torgac-type helictites. The gypsum claw stalactites look somewhat like the formations in the Chandelier Ballroom in Lechuguilla Cave. In addition to the gypsum claws the cave also contains a spectacular arrangement of gypsum flowers and a large room with selenite crystals.
Torgac is in a desolate area with no signs of human life for miles. It is located on Bureau of Land
Management property. We were fortunate to have Knutt Peterson as our guide. Knutt is a cartographer with the BLM but volunteered his personal time to guide us through this special cave. We also wish to thank Mike Bilbo,BLM cave specialist, for the permit to visit and permission to photograph Torgac.
