I was one of 25 Long Islanders who visited Cuba in March 2009 on a government-approved mission. During the five days of this adventure, I documented the classic American cars still operating on the streets of Havana. In this new six-minute film posted, you will see over 60 classic cars including; Chevrolets, Dodges, Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles, Fords, and Cadillacs. The film concludes with a video of a typical Havana street scene. More information can be found at VanderbiltCupRaces.com

  • @sorum I like how you make fun of the Great United States of America. What is your problem? You do not like the Tea Party? They are a great american culture also.

  • These 50s cars are almost desirable in US . Auto buffs would be making offers on the street and could ship them back home but the problem is that four door oldies don't yield the big bucks Not like the coupe or convertible. I dunno--- just an observation Jose

  • @203207ab I don't believe his intentions were to save the American classic cars.

  • @hebneh That's interesting. It explains alot about the fifties cars present in Cuba. What a shame, such a beautiful country. But I could never visit.

  • Well the Cuban public has good taste unlike the country those cars are from where people just drive plastic shit

  • It's my understanding that while the Castro government confiscated nearly all private property in Cuba, anyone who owned a car as of Jan. 1, 1959 was allowed to keep it. As it's nearly impossible to get a new car of any kind, any person lucky enough to possess a '50s car (which usually would happen to be an American make) needs to keep it running in any way possible.

  • @203207ab Sorry my friend but you are wrong ,in cuba they have all kinds of new cars from mercedes benz to toyotas but they belong to the goverment or the so called" foreing technicall advisors"people that have bussines in CUBA .EMBARGO YOU SAY JAJAJA in cuba you can see the mitsubishi company ,mercedez ,renault and many others doing bussines with the goverment ,hotels from spanish companies like THE MELIAS ,LG <SONY electronics,( FIDEL saved this cars ?) so funny!those are AMERICAN CARS

  • Excellent video. Grazie.

  • There are no modern american cars in cuba because we have the embargo in place. that is why these cars were never junked! Think of that, Fidel saved these so called beauties.

Oh, even though I am not a huge fan of Soviet made ladas, I think you should have taken some photos of them as well. Cubans don't just take pride with American cars. They also have cars from other countries as well, but maybe your preference is for large, gas belching american behemouths.
