Don't forget, that for example in SRW L they got rid of his hate for Kira. Bah, they even made them friends, when Shinn saves Strike Freedom in one of the missions.

Shinn suffered in Destiny because the series focus shifted from him to Kira, stopping his character development completely on the point where he was a winy, angry pissant.
Z fixed it by having them both share focus and giving Shinn a role model in the form of Kamille. Kamille, having went through similar crap as Shinn, was able to lead him past his personal hell and revive his hope in humanity, to the point where he rejects Durandal's Destiny Project and fights against him.

Ya know, I actually prefer to stick this theme on Shinn.
It just seems to fit him more than Vestige and I love the guitar strings in it.
