Dr David Starkey concludes his epic story of our monarchy with a special programme on the history of the House of Windsor.
Far from being stuck in the past, the story of the monarchy in the 20th Century has been one of re-invention. In the space of a few decades our Royal family changed its name, its image and the role it played in the life of the nation.
It embraced new technology and found new ways to engage with the people. As David Starkey reveals, this was a course of action that would take the monarchy to some of its greatest moments of triumph, but also sowed the seeds of its near destruction. But the British Monarchy still soldiers on!

wow Prince Charles should not have worshipped with hindus. He is not a true Christian if he does that. He should be a good Christian and not participate in pagan rituals. Also the brits must kick out the hindus, muslims and blacks so that the land belongs to the british people, the true owners of the land.

I think Charles and Camilla only got away with it because they are no longer relevant.

I somehow don't see the point in discussing about Charles becoming King or not. If he is alive when his mother passes away, he will become King. It is not like we have any say in the matter, and if we did it wouldn't be a monarchy: it would be a profane sham.

Isn't it better that Charles marries the woman he REALLY loves? If Camilla was a raving beauty this wouldn't even be an issue - every one would adore her and support the marriage. Diana was gorgeous, she would have (God willing) found someone to share her life with and would have done the same. A drunk driver killed her chance, not Charles. Give the poor bugger a chance

Charles is a brilliant man, and has visionary views about the environment. He has a lot to offer the world, with his spirituality, wisdom and grace.
