Créé en 2000,Ege Hijaz Orkestra regroupe des musiciens originaires de la région de la mer Egée d'où ils puisent en grande partie leur énergie et leur inspiration. Sous la direction du clarinettiste Altan Gözetlik, six maîtres transportent le spectateur dans un voyage enivrant au rythme des chants et mélodies mêlant musique urbaine et musique populaire d'Anatolie.
Thanks to their virtuosity and ability to adapt to various styles and genres, Gypsy musicians of Aegean sea have become an indispensable part not only of weddings and celebrations, but also -recently- of jazz and improvisational music concerts in Istanbul and Izmir.
Ege Hijaz Orkestra consists in a clarinet, , a kanun, an oud (lute), a violin, a trombon and a darbouka (drum), a perfect orchestra for a repertoire of Gypsy and Classical Turkish music. The ensemble starts with traditional Istanbul songs and the performance evolves into a Gypsy celebration reaching its peak at the end. The ensemble has brought the sound of the typical entertainment atmosphere of the meyhanes (drinking cafes) of Istanbul to various concert halls in Europe since 2000.
