SSDs are very fast and they can even make a netbook PC faster than an high-end notebook. Look at this comparison; there are:
(*) An high-end notebook Asus N90 with standard HDD and 4GB RAM;
(*) A netbook Acer Aspire One D150 with SSD and 2GB RAM.
The netbook is... very very fast in startup and shutdown. The test takes in consideration Windows 7 RTM Ultimate Operative System.

  • the test will only count when you run it on identical laptops(except for the storage device) to show the speed difference, obvoiusly that only appears when windows 7 is loading but a side by side comparison illustrates the difference the best.

  • @HPSsudents I think this is more than what you suggest to do, because the notebook offers stock better components, except for the HDD drive.

@who says negative stuff: this is a just-see-how-an-SSD-is test, if you don't like it's not my problem ;)

  • The one of the left use a lot of time in bios.. tests like these should be performed on two identical (except the ssd/hdd ofcourse) computers

  • Bah... start counting AFTER the BIOS post and see wich one is faster: the netbook outperforms the notebook!

Fuck all XD Only negative comments. Try an SSD and then let me know if it was better with your slow slow slow hard disk!

  • Nope; that's about the same amount of memory, and the netbook has a slower frequency RAM.

  • Some thing is realy relate to window stating:

1/POST (this notebook do POST more than this one)

2/The editor of win (may be this notebook run a editor with more feature)

3/Software installed that start with window (may be this note book have more :D) SSD only do this affect at 2,3 so that experiment is showing nothing. haha!

  • asus? high end? LOL

  • High-end notebook ?? fo sure???

  • @KheltwoPerryk nope, isn't because of starter but i think it's the videocard, howewer the notebook lost a couple of time doing the POST, that isn't affected by the hard disk, maybe the netbook has faster ram, not only the storage drive counts, but helps, SSD it's faster but the continue use of the paging will shorten it's life, SSD it's good on system with 4GB of ram that rarely uses the paging file, on a 2GB system it's also good, but i don't like the use of SSD in 1GB system.

  • @joenpierre24 Because most netbooks run Windows 7 Starter. This edition of Windows 7 uses Windows Vista's boot screen.

  • umm 20 seconds is not worth the upgrade cost for a ssd

  • i really gotta upgrade my netbook lol

  • Nice demonstration. Just wish ssds were reasonably priced...

  • What if you have an SSD as your boot device and HDD as your main storage device. I'm planning to have a 8GB or 16GB SSD as my boot drive, and a 1.5 TB HDD as my storage drive. With that said, will the Defragmentation, Superfetch, and Write Caching be disabled on not only the SSD, but also on the HDD? A response and a reference article is well appreciated. :)

  • Guys.... Don't you understand that the video is trying to show how sad it is that a notebook can be slower than a netbook, SSD or not? XD
