3:53 There is nothing wrong with quoting Gandhi in a speech. Obama can do it and so could Clinton and MLK. You just have to be have to be able to to wield the words of the great Gandhi.
You have done an excellent job covering all of the points made in this speech! You would be the first person for me to vote for you as Prime Minister! Thank you!
I do not mean to be overly critical, I felt that Miss Labchuk's general presentation was good and found many of her ideas agreeable. As an average Canadian citizen I just felt like airing my two-cents regarding some of her views.
Absolutely no disrespect is intended.
BTW, Please ignore the grammatical errors in the previous paragraph
If Miss Labchuk's goal where to replace progressive taxation with a regressive form of consumer taxation than I could not support her.
Also a period of global recession is hardly a time for fiscal conservatism and an unmovable line on deficit spending.
History has shown that government intervention can and does positively stimulate economies. I would agree with the Keynesian methodology of saving during the good times and spending during the bad,
It ensures that social services, which provide the general working public with an equitable and fair standard of living are paid for, largely by income tax which is collected based on one's ability to pay.
Meaning the wealthy pay the greatest burden of tax. This ensures that services considered essential to survival (health, education, etc.) for the majority of the public are paid for by the minority who control most of the wealth. That is social justice.
As far as Camille's ideas on democratic renewal are concerned, I could not agree more. However electoral reform is hardly a new idea and she was rather vague on how she would go about it and what system she would support as a replacement for FPTP.
Implementing a Green Tax Shift in certain sectors would be a good move, however I was a tad concerned with her boast that as PM she would reform the way the gov.t collects taxes.
Progressive taxation is in simplest terms, a good and just thing
Well done, but since this is for TV, don't forget to have some fun too. If Bob Rae can jump into a lake, there must be something fun you can add to your next videos to increase appeal to the non-political viewers too.
Well done Camille, clearly you've got your head screwed on properly. I would love to see you succeed and so I say: 1) never quote Ghandi (trite), 2) avoid phrases like "Revitalize Democracy", and 3) never stop working on making your message sound natural; I know you've made great progress that way, but I hope you agree there's still a long way to go. Well done!
