@PicturesqueScene The male lion's duty is to defend the pride. Whenever foreign lions try to invade the pride and take over or try to kill the females' cubs, it is the male lion that protects them. They benefit mutually.

Human sacrifice was widely practiced by the Aztecs and the Mayans. Female genital mutilation is still practiced by some tribes in Africa.
Of course we can't expect the world to be perfect, like a fairytale. But we can always inch it, little bit by little bit, ever so closer to that ideal.

And don’t give me that bullshit about how this is acceptable because it’s a part of Japanese cuisine. Saying that cruelty is acceptable because it is a part of a culture is incredibly ignorant and close-minded. Self-immolation of widows was a Hindu ritual practiced in India before being banned in 1829. Cannibalism used to be a common and accepted practice in Papua New Guinea.

Foie gras involves trapping a goose/duck in a tiny box so that it can’t spread its wings or even stand, and pouring fat and grease down its esophagus everyday until its liver swells to three times its size. Donkey meat in China is eaten, quite simply, like this: some people restrain a donkey while others cut away chunks of its meat and eat it right there and then. Are these dishes acceptable?

This fish could be terrified, for all we know. I don’t see much advantage to preparing and eating a fish live.
Ortolan is prepared by blinding an ortolan bunting with a pair of pincers, force-feeding it until it swells to four times its size, and then drowning it in armagnac.

Someone consciously decided to prepare this fish live, someone consciously decided to serve it live, and someone consciously decided to eat it live. None of it was raw instinct (at least, I hope not).
Even if fish’s nervous systems are too primitive for them to feel much pain from being sliced up live, wouldn’t it still be better for a fish’s general wellbeing to kill it before eating it?

A bear probably wouldn’t even care whether the fish it eats is alive or not, as long as it doesn’t put up a fight when it stuffs it in its mouth. On the other hand, humans have evolved to the point where they can ignore their survival instincts (suicide being a prime example), and most of the things we do everyday are conscious decisions.
You guys argue all you want, i can't take my eyes off the squid in the back. whoever's eating that is a beast.

Yea the fish is still alive. No it's not because of the nerves. If it were nerves it would be twitching but clearly it is alive. But so what, it's a fish. Go watch a National Geographic video about grizzly bears hunting salmon. They rip it apart with their teeth and mutilate them with their claws. Most of the time the bear doesn't even finish the fish, only partially for the fatty meat. The fish is left alive to die. Go cry in your little fairy tale corner.
