When pressed by Philippe Sands...on Bush's recent admission that he had authorized interrogation procedures widely seen as amounting to torture, Carter replied that he was sure Bush would be able to live a peaceful, 'productive life - in our country'" after he leaves the White House. Sands later said that he had "understood that [remark] to be 'clear confirmation' that, while Bush would face no challenge in his own country, 'what happened outside the country was another matter entirely.'

  • Your country can be proud to have had really civilized President like Carter. Some will have the capacity to realize it. The economical and energy problems started with OPEC's agreements in Pres. Nixon's time. Iran: The Shah was granted temporary asylum in USA to have treatment for his cancer, that provoked some Iranians to capture the American embassy with hostages. And the Panama canal: What was wrong with that? Further he was a spokesman against racial discrimination, provided schools for

  • @necessaryevil101....so true! America has suffered greatly, ever since. We have yet to walk from under the dark cloud behind the many slayings of the 1960's.

  • notice how everything turned evil after jfk got shot by the cia?

  • Nixon was a crook. I highly doubt much of his would be seen as productive especially since just about everyone saw him that way. Regean proved that actor's should not be presidents >.>

  • @louisalit

Carter was much farther to the right than Nixon. He rolled back many of the positive programs Nixon implemented. Carter also oversaw the diplomatic catastrophe that was the 1979 Egypt-Israel peace treaty, which allowed Israel to invade Lebanon. Carter himself is also a war criminal, as he financially and diplomatically supported Indonesia's Genocide of the East Timorese, encouraging the atrocities and increasing funding as they escalated.

He's a nice guy, but not a good President.

  • Being a one term president is not a demerit against Jimmy Carter. Rather President Carter is one of the more sane voices in our world today. His voice added to the voices of the world's people is one which should be listened to. Part of the problem with the idea of human rights trials for the Bush's administration is one of expediency. G.W. Bush is not above the law. He should be prosecuted for violation of human rights without regard to his status as a head of state. Also Obama should be tried.

  • Somebody needs to nipple pinch those pussies Bush and Cheney ntil they scream like the limp wrist women they are.

  • war is hell
