I'm DEP'ed in for the Marines and ship for basic in April. Atheists are "inferior soldiers"? I guess I get to prove the pricks wrong :)

i would honestly say after 3 years in infantry units id honestly say about 90 % of my comrades were openly athiest under the rank of cpt. americans are so against athiest and have neg stereotypes but appitimize these very same soldiers as the heroes of america.after getting recalled though i deployed with a nat gaurd unit they seem to be a little less diverse and carry regional beliefs so maybe hes just from a rural or overly religious area.

I agree I was stabbed at a super max prison a few years ago---no screaming for the invisi-dad; had a head on collision in '96--no invisi-dad to the rescue--and that didn't change when I joined the military. I'd rather keep my senses and look for a logical way to live than talking or remotely depending on imaginary friends.

I'm with NibbitsForLife, wondering how things are going with this subject now?

I just got out of the Army last Sat. I am an atheist, who had to get my own dogtags made as well. During inprocessing I said "atheist" and the NCO put down "no preference". I took issue with this, because I do have a preference---ATHEISM. I was informed that was in the 'other' catagory.

yea but doesn't choosing "no pref" just mean that if you're killed then at your funeral whoever else gets to choose what it said and what faith its under, regardless of whether you believed in it or not.

Which is why I do have a preference--Atheism. If I'm killed or die I don't want some fraud coming along and portraying me in a manner that not only I didn't believe in--but was adamently against. To say that we must go under no preference is saying that our beliefs-or lack of aren't important enough to be recognized. I have even put it in my advance directive that I don't even want a Chaplain or other religous figure in my room.

Here is an experiment. Kidnap a believer, tie him up after bounded to a pole, then take a gun out a shoot him. Demand that he pray to god in order to spare his life, but shoots him anyways.
