Car/Bike Cam # 33: Thumps, Impatient Beeper, In a Hurry?, Truck Squashes Cyclist (sort of)

Car blasts through stop sign.

Cop goes through red light, sirens blaring.

Riding one Sunday morning and a guy tells me he thinks my bike is impressive. This is the second time someone has commented on my bike how much they like it.

My car started making this odd thumping noise after I went over a bump. At one point the thumps came one after another (you can see my car bouncing) and then a louder THUD happened (it sounds like something fell) and it stopped. Unsure of what could be the problem. I have heard the thumping once or twice since.

Riding my bike and I hear a beeping coming from behind me. Wasn't sure what was going on at the time (I'm used to people beeping at me for no reason while riding). Watching the rear camera told the story. A car is turning and the car behind them doesn't like their slowness and lays on the horn!

At the time I didn't realize just how bad this was. Looking back at the footage, you can see the truck doesn't move much at all when he's about to pass me. If I hadn't move out, it could have been ugly!

I glanced in my rearview mirror and instantly knew before we got to the lights what this guy was going to do. I sensed it in the way he was driving behind me... He didn't disappoint! Barely at the light for a few seconds and he reverses to go in front of me to make his right turn. The lights change soon after so his little impatient maneuver hardly saved him time. Wonder where he was rushing off to.

This guy doesn't bother to look, too intent on following the SUV in front.

the thumping may have just been a piece of road with tar on it stuck to your tire and eventually flung it off. unless you drive a Chrysler product then stuff falling off is normal :)

@fattpieceofcrap I drive a Chevy. And I really wish that were the problem but I'm not so sure. :/ Haven't heard the noise again so who knows.

makes me wonder what bike looks like!!!

maybe something loose, you never know really! cars are expensive to have!

I see alot where car honks at slow turner but yeah!

green truck is a jerk, looked like he could make space!

I woulda honked at car cutting around you at redlight but than again could be bad! want cops to see stuff like that go down!

That's why I'd rather ride more than drive, but unfortunately with the cold weather coming I'm not sure how often that will be.

No doubt the truck could have made space. He had the whole other lane to use. Didn't want to be bothered getting stuck for one second behind the car in front. Rather run me over instead!

I was tempted to beep. But it wouldn't have done much. I probably would have gotten a dirty look or the finger.

0:03 - that was a 4-way-stop? - they don't exist over here, there's always one road with the right of way and the road that crosses it has the stop signs, never 3 or 4 signs (if any).

The driver of the green truck was just a dick, like if he didn't bother killing someone - or he just "knew" you would let him by on the intersection ... still a dumbass.

and the guy at 1:45 going past you to turn ... i have no comment for that, it's just stupid impatiency.

I know, and it leaves me wondering what the result would have been if I didn't move. Would have been really scary!!

Oddly enough that has happened to me more in my car than on my bike. You'd think it would be the opposite!

@Mango38 people are strange - really. I remember when i was in a driving lesson, i waited a bit on a T-junction to turn into the main road. when i turned left and started moving, a car squeezed by my left side and stayed there the whole turning maneuver and around the next corner! - then we were stuck in traffic together for the next ten minutes.

(ooh and nice music in your car when the cop came by)
