Advent Children has corrolation with the great depression and WWII. The Remnants are like the war debts the Treaty of Versilles gave Germany (Sephiroth) and come back to bite the world later. Meanwhile, Cloud is suffuring from Depression, and Shinra (Industrialzation) comes to help him out of it along with Aerith and Zack's ghosts, giving Cloud the strength to fight alongside Shinra (Businesses) against the threat of Sephiroth. Symbolism is everywhere. In FF7, the world is almost like WWI. Shinra represents the industrialzation, and Sephiroth is akin to Germany being a powder keg. After the war, peace reigns again, but they never forget the sacrifices of people like Aerith. Zack represents an old belief- that to die for ones beliefs is the greatest of all honor. Genesis represents fanciful thoughts of young men that thought war was romantic, and people like Cloud are the ones who deal with the aftermath, the civilians.
