Nicolae Covaci of Dragomiresti is the oldest living Maramures folk fiddler. Born in 1921, he has been playing dances since 1929. He is possibly the last of the Gypsy musicians in Maramures to have actually played with Jewish musicians in the years before the holocaust and maintains a wide repetoire of Jewish tunes as well as archaic Maramures fiddle styles. Here he plays a set of Jewish tunes with New York fiddler Jake Shulman-Ment, May 14, 2011.
