  • Mark have you ever had to use non organic methods of controlling bugs in your garden or are you only using organic methods.

  • @loveofvegetables actually I did not start off organic; in early 90s you would have found me spraying Sevin (poison derived from WW2 nerve gas) on my plants. However, now I never need anything in home garden. If (and this is a big) you can make yourself do without it a few years, your garden will get in balance of predators and prey so you will not have that much damage. Also, there are plenty of effective organic poisons you can use but I rarely (haven't any in last 3 years) use them either

  • Beautiful garden.

  • @Mrsoncloudnine thanks! I get a lot of help from my family!

  • Yep those white patches look normal to me I allways get it!

The powdery meldue forms round spots that you can wipe off it can be cured with sodium bicarbonate mixed with water & sprayed on early in the morning is best!

  • @fatturdburger yes, I agree. I think these are normal; it sure has not hurt production! - Mark

  • Your bamboo row markers should last several years, even with direct ground contact. I used a make-shift 2' high fencing around a 4x12 patch last fall, made of bamboo. And yes, the running varieties of bamboo aren't something you want to plant, without an extensive barrier around the perimeter, buried about 2-3' deep. If you can imagine, it's more (at least AS) invasive as Kudzu.

  • @markhess thank you Mark, I will give it a try since we

really like to can pickles and relishes. I usually get lots

of cucumbers from neighbors, but most are not growing

    a garden this year.

  • @9aspengold5 I just planted more cucumbers here in Georgia last weekend so I bet you can still plant cucumbers too! - Mark

  • Is it too late to start cucumber plants late June (in virginia).?? My present plants are suffereing after a week of over 100 degree temperatures, even though I have been watering them.
