844 and the Portland Rose followed from the tunnels near Huntington, OR to the yard limits at Hinkle on September 12, 2010. She was bound for Portland, OR where she would turn around and pull a special train for the Pendleton Roundup's 100th Anniversary.

  • @tomfisher at 5:15 one of the railfans says something is wrong. he is right the brakes on the Columbine Dome Car have failed their are no detectors on Blue Mountain the next one is 200 miles away at Rufus. train brakes are not suppose to sound like that. when the trains brakes are applied the sound of the brake disk makes a short squall if it is a long one you know brakes have failed. C45 is in emergency and if it were on you would here a hum as the dynamic brakes are applied.

  • @geomodelrailroader Yeah, I'm pretty sure that car was dropped in Portland, I remember seeing a dome car in Albina after the 844 left for home. There was a smoke coming off its undercarriage at 8:03 and I think they had to stop a few miles after that and mess with it. My dad was a BN engineer for almost 40 years and said he could smell the bad brakes you were talking about. That was probably him you heard at 5:15.

  • those last two shots 1:00 and 1:135 were failed roll by shots this is not History Channel this is YouTube don't try that again or your camcorder will get crushed. I have a feeling you met AndrewAMTRAK he was on the same bridge as you

  • @geomodelrailroader How were they 'failed'? They came out as well as we wanted them to considering the conditions we were in. And there was plenty of room for the camera under there, it's only 3 inches tall and shockproof. And i didn't shoot it for youtube or THC, i shot it for me! Youtube can just be glad i let them see it :D

  • Great framing at 7:40 !

  • @tomAfisher LOL in Hinkle they checked the brakes and replaced the disk but they had a bigger problem HOT BOX the whole axial had to be taken to Albina Yard and placed in the shop they would have done it at Hinkle but the shop was full and they were short on parts. the only axial on the OSL was 200 miles away at Albina Yard so they had to head to the yard with a bad car behind the train. Wgemeiner has a video on here of #844 at Rufus the detector called HOTBOX on the last car.

  • @tomAfisher LOL one of the videos on here by @wgemeiner shows Columbine going pass the Hot Box Detector at Rufus they stopped at Hinkle for oil but were out of parts and the shop was full so they had to go to Albina which hand the wheel they needed and a turntable because the one at Hinkle was in use. @rosecity transet shows the car being dropped and @at Geebmachine shows the car being added in his slideshow at Pocatello Yard. note when the car was dropped UP#2010 took it to Pokey.

  • @tomAfisher sorry about that but when the do roll by the cameras are heavy the camera got knocked over because it was not anchored and the ties vibrate when a train goes over it.
