JERUSALEM (Reuters) - French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner has urged Israel not to launch a military strike against Iran's nuclear programme, an Israeli newspaper reported on Sunday
Kouchner, in the region for talks with Israeli and Palestinian leaders, urged the Jewish state to continue to support Western-backed sanctions and dialogue to press Iran to halt its atomic project, the Haaretz daily said.
"I know that in Israel, and the Israeli army, there are those who are preparing for a military solution or an attack" aimed at halting the Iranian programme, Kouchner told the paper in an interview.
Several Israeli officials have voiced their uneasiness with Irans program, warning Tehran that they will do whatever is necessary, including the use of their military, to eliminate such a threat.

Iran responded clearly to this, stating that any attack against its territory would lead to retaliation. For Israel, another major concern is the intention of Iran to buy S-300 anti-ballistic missiles from Russia. The purchase of these highly developed anti-ballistic missiles will change the strategic balance in the region, the diplomat said
