wouldnt it be cheaper to buy a new pc and a external HDD then transfer the files from the old pc to the new rather than paying apple to transfer it for you

Ahh, marketing. These ads are more or less targeting Windows OS rather than PCs themselves, because, well, Macs are personal computers too. It's just a thinly veiled ruse for Apple to charge exorbitant amounts of money for inferior hardware. Aesthetics? Sure, Apple products look sleek and are simple to use, but you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Nevermind that you can make "hackintosh" computers very easily.
PS: Macs break just the same~
