I'm looking into building my own MAME arcade machine. How much should I look into spending. Just so I don't stop halfway through and go broke.

Nice machine. I am rebuilding my MAME cabinet and am looking at installing either hyperspin or maximus. Is one easier than the other?

Im buying an arcade the weekend with 1000 games on it the only problem it seems to have is when you turn it on it takes about 3-4 minutes to power up.I know this is some kind of fault but what exactly and how much to pur right? Also the volume is very low,how do i alter that?
Thanks.

@funkbum
Thanks, man. I appreciate the note. You will have a good time building your cabinet. sounds like you've already got some good experience with the Defender machine... Be sure to keep your Defender game, as it is difficult to emulate, unless you have the right control panel ;-)

how many hours does it take to build one of these ? & is there any companies or individuals that build them for you ?

Hey - I consider my MAME cabinet a labor of love ;-) It's been a great hobby. One that I'm probably embarrassed to admit how much time I've spent. You could buy a lame arcade machine (I've seen them at Costco), but forget about customization. Tweaking is half the fun.

How did you get the intro movie and other consoles running? and the preview pic's n stuff?

The Maximus Arcade front end is very easy to customize. I am not really that technical, but have been able to figure it out, thanks to the forums, and all the documentation on the web. I've now got video previews from EMu Movies. The intro movie was tough to find, however.
