Martha Sandweiss recounts the life of 19th century geologist and surveyor of the American West, Clarence King who lived a double-life as a black Pullman porter and steelworker, James Todd in order to marry his African-American wife. Clarence King kept his secret from his colleagues, family, and his wife, who believed she was married to James Todd until his death. This event was hosted by Vromans Bookstore in Pasadena, California.
