I also play the double bass, but not nearly as good as you. So amazing, I didn't think the Six Studies could sound this beautiful. You make me want to practice for ten hours!
Really? I think his tempo is a nice contrast to the other 4 movements preceding it. Plus it sets you up for the blazing tempo of 6. But I guess thats the beauty of classical music isnt it? We all have different interpretations of the same notes
Beautiful. I've loved this piece for 25 years. I play it on violin and you are the first other string player I have seen or heard perform the work. I am amazed how expressive the double bass in your hands. I personally prefer the 5th movement slow and pastoral, and I think it would "sound" less technically difficult and would benefit if you made it into a dreamy Irish air, rather than the dance that it is right now. You take the 6th movement blazingly quick, very exciting. Bravo to piano.
This is the only version I have heard with a double bass. I have watched it a number of times and feel that this was a very good version of one of my favourite Vaughan Williams' pieces. The piano accompaniment was also very good. My favourite version is with viola and piano; check out the version done by Rachel Gelfeld, who does a beautiful job on the three movements she does (I, II & IV).
