The reason I love this scene so much is that Gandalf spends most if his Gandalf/Pippin time calling him out on the stupid stuff he does. But here is proof that he does, in fact, care about him as much as Frodo or Sam or Merry. He might be an idiot, but he still marched straight towards Mordor and still charged straight at dozens of Uruk-Hai in defense of Boromir and countless other honorable things.
