He is demonstrating 13 grams of force here. That's about the weight of 5 US pennies. A magnet would easily produce that force when turned over. I suspect that he has another magnet on the base of the scale. So when the upper magnet is turned one way, it's attracting (down) with 6.5 grams of force, and when turned the other, it's repelling with 6.5 grams of force.
