Compare second-hand movement on Rolex Explorer model 1016 caliber 1560 from 1960 to D-Series model 114270 caliber 3130: 18000 beats per hour versus 28,800 BPH. Rolex Explorer is the original literary James Bond watch, based on the personal choice of Ian Fleming and referenced in his 007 novel, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service."

  • honestly, great comparison. nice job. the 1016 is running a bit slower then the 1560. I always though that Ian Fleming stated in his books that Bond wore a submariner? no?

  • @MyBaldMom Nope; Mr Fleming never mentioned a Sub in any of his James Bond stories.

  • @LtAld0Raine Happy New Year! Surely you noticed that I uploaded this video within hours of you receiving that beautiful 114270 from your girlfriend. That's destiny.

Having both as I do, let me reflect to you that each has its strengths and weaknesses: Next time you're out playing sports or in a hot tub, believe me, you'll start to see where the contemporary ruggedness of (necessary) Rolex technology enhancements in the last half-century have kept it a leading brand.

    I surely do.

  • @MyBaldMom Money is of no worry to the James Bond films. Besides, Rolex likely gave their watches as an advertising opportunity, and possibly even had to pay the James Bond franchise, not vice versa, in order that they display their watches.

  • @mikeymike3232 no. what hes talking about essentially is how smooth the second hand moves. If there are more beats per second the hand will move in smaller increments and more often, creating a much smoother looking movement

  • So the james bond of the 1960's wasn't on time compared to the james bond of today??

  • @jamesbondwatches

so the movie somehwhat deviated from the book by placing a submariner on bond? i heard the movie studio didn't want to pay for a rolex and the director took his off to use in the movie. is that true as well?

  • I've never liked Rolex and I still don't like them or most of them. The Explorer I really caught my eye and I saw one with a NATO strap on wow. So this year I will have to do some travel so I can acquire one.
