Raw Video: Skydiver Killed in Crash Through Roof

Investigators have released video and photos of a skydiving accident that killed a man. The 34-year old was preparing to land after photographing skydiving tandems when his parachute collapsed and he crashed into a condo roof. (March 26)

Yes the control lines which go to the back of the parachute let you turn one way or the other and "flare" the parachute to slow down for landing.

The parachute did not "collapse" the skydiver just screwed up the landing by doing what we call a "hook turn" when he became aware that he might land on the roof. It is a common cause of serious injury accidents or fatalities in the sport and due to serious error on the part of the canopy pilot. Any human being can make a mistake and it is truly tragic that this one had such bad consequences. Any parachute instructor (like me) can see what happened and why. RIP dude and sympathy to your friends.
