(VIDEO MIGHT BE REMOVED AND RE EDITED )
On Saturday 5th September 2009 during the Barry Tall Ships weekend, GWR 94xx Pannier Tank 9466 owned by Dennis Howells was giving cab rides over a small section of the former Barry Island Steam railway which closed last year and the land now owned by Cambrian Transport Limited. In this video we take a cab ride over the line which is on the site of the former Dai Woodham scrapyard where many of Britains preserved engines came from, including 9466. Thanks goes to the driver and fireman of 9466, staff at the event, Cambrian Transport, Vale Of Glamorgan council and JBTEvans who I attended the event with.

  • Great video, looks a good line, how long is it?

    5*

  • Thanks Jamie, sorry for not replying, the shuttles were only about 1/2 a mile long but the orignal railway before it closed last year was 2 miles

  • Pity it didn't run for a longer distance. I went on the old line last year, they did some good events.

  • It's due to appear at the West Somerset Steam Gala next month.

  • I think it's just staying at Barry for works to be completed on it by Cambrian transport limited in the former steam shed, all the rest of the stock is either going or gone (with the exception of cambrian transport owned stock)

  • I believe it is going to the West Somerset Railway for their Gala this weekend, then on to elsewhere

  • Why did it not haul any coaches? It looked great though. I might go down at the weekend to see if its there. Good vid!!

  • Good question. Is the loco staying at Barry or on hire? I would love to see it and possibly have a go at driving it. How do I join this railway?

  • Great video.

I believe this is the first event the new commercial operator has run since the charity was kicked out last year.

Does any one know if the loco is staying in Barry and what other rolling stock they have?

  • Superb video Jamie, sounds like a great day was had by all...5* Bob
