This is a nitrogen spectrum tube, powered by 2700V induction coil device, producing a plasma. Also includes a still image and an emission spectrum.

  • thats really nitrogen? mmhm didn't expect that color.

  • It certainly is. Its emission spectrum matches that of nitrogen.

I must admit I was surprised when I learnt the nitrogen emission was pink. I use to think it was yellowish.

  • What part of the normal atmosphere gives the blue tone in plasma? I used to think it was nitrogen.

  • Oxygen gives the blue discharge (according to my spectrum tube experiments), although I've read somewhere that nitrogen can give a blue white color with very high intensity electric discharge (e.g, lightning).

  • No, ever hear of a plasma TV?

  • No, plasma just means the gas is ionized.

  • well wait isnt the plasma state only in the stars?
