@bnovak99 i can think of 4 songs with the exact lyrics "somebody that i used to know" -- 1 artist is dead, 2 alive for sure, and the third i dont know. my point is this is elliots own song, he was around well before all the others, killed himself long before any of the other songs came around.
the bickering of this being a cover, or if it was stolen is just by a bunch of noobs. enjoy the music and stfu.

Elliott Smith's music is simply phenomenon.
His music will forever live on and never be forgotten. <3
I love you, Elliott Smith<3
-
I really love his guitar playing along with his phenomenal voice and the phrasing and harmony. i get choked up every time I listen to him

@Robertsmith3828 Exactly! I was 12 when they released that single and even then I remember thinking, "What, Pink Floyd made up the sentiment 'wish you were here'? This is ridiculous."
-
@NoBrakes23 Thank you! I completely agree. The idea of a falling out is nothing new at all.
-
@bnovak99 yea, its not a cover. but also not stolen.
the lyrics are completely different.
and bout the idea: its nothing major, if it was, most of the love songs modern pop throws out there would just be aconisist of "copied ideas".

@bnovak99 C'mon, this theme predates either artist by years. That's like saying anyone who ever wrote a song about substance abuse is ripping off Elliott.
-
@BeenOrange exactly my point. it's NOT a cover which would pay homage to Elliot. It's a rip of his idea and lyric.
-
@bnovak99 youre an idiot.
EVER HEARD THE WORD "COVER" ?
Also, this is really a completely different song.
-
@sephyr242 You forgot "better".
@2DMusicc There is no Gotye "version". It's a completely different song, it just has the same title.
