'Tis the season, so think about this for
just a moment... When you read the words
Holiday Shopping, what image comes
to mind first? Is it the crush of crowds chasing
deals before dawn on Black Friday? Is it the ever
elusive parking space close to an entrance at the mall?
Or do you return to a more simple time in your childhood, when you gazed
for hours into the fanciful window displays at the old Hudson's store
downtown?
Whatever image pops into your head, fabulous or frustrating, it's fairly
certain that Chloe Whitsitt sees something totally different, completely
unexpected and truly humbling.
Chloe works for Goodwill Industries as a material handler in the
e-waste recovery and recycling program. She's a single mom doing
her best to raise three kids on her own. And like anyone in her
position — working hard to make ends meet but not quite there yet — the
mere mention of holiday shopping could be enough to raise feelings of
worry, guilt and sadness.
