In this tutorial video I show how to solve a Gear Shift puzzle. The Gear Shift was invented by Oskar van Deventer based on an idea by Bram Cohen.

Is your Big Corner 1 or 3 cogs away?? If so watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43_S2N0Sio4

Gear Shift's can be purchased from mefferts.com

  • Man, you must be very wealthy to afford so many puzzles including Oskar's very expensive prototypes.

  • @Vojife I haven't purchased any of Oskar's expensive prototypes, only his much cheaper mass produced pieces.

  • If your big corner is either 1 or 3 cogs away... Check the description. I've added a video showing how to fix those unsolvable cases.

  • @Pwnzjoomom If it's 1 or 3 away, then the puzzle is in an unsolvable position. And you will need to make the gears skip to put it in a solvable position.

  • i just watched this whole video and i dont even have a gear shift. that is commitment at its finest.

  • @teddypsn um meffert's

  • @redkb how can you buy the cheap peices

  • Thumbs up if you dont have a gear shift!

  • nice i need to buy that cube from mefferts!

  • I myself can complete step 1 to 2.5, which represents that I could finish step 3 with a bit difficulty without this video.

Thanks to this great video, I can solve it in a much more systematical way.

I would like to tell you your presentation is excellent

Though I do not follow every sub-step through big step1 to 4, I'm sure this systematical approach is of great educational significance, esp. in the realm of teaching and learning psychology.

Have you written any book concerning your great job?

  • Thanks to your two great videos, including "Fixing the Last Corner of the Gear Shift", I could manage to solve my Gear Shift. Normally I don't like to jump to the solution of any Mechanical puzzle. And so, I've not solved any classic Rubik's cube like 3x3x3 cube.

This twisty puzzle is very special to me. Up to 1 week ago, I myself could solve it for up to 8 times, but suddenly I didn't know why I kept failing.

I guess maybe It's been got into the unsolved state by accident.

    Thank for very much!

  • @redkb Mass produced? I thought he didn't want to do that... Hurray!
