This video is entitled "Five".
It was recorded live at "The Light Of The World Festival", Statue Square, Hong Kong, 24th December 2007

FIVE

"Five" is a drumset composition composed in groupings of five, Combining South American and Middle Eastern Rhythms with modern Progressive Rock overtones.

"FIVE"
Pattern Breakdown:

The first section of Five begins with straight forward Progressive Rock
Tom Tom / Bass Drum combinations.

In the next section I am playing a grouping of Five around the toms.
I then add a 5/4 Rhumba Clave on my right foot cowbell, followed by off-beat 1/8 Notes on my left Hi-hat pedal then followed by playing the downbeats with my left foot on the left bass drum pedal. I call this technique "The Switch Foot Technique.
This is joined with some light improvisation with my left hand on the drumset.

In the next section I am essentially playing the same grouping of Five as I was playing around the toms with my right hand but I am now playing the same pattern orchestrated in a different way between the1st floor tom, 2nd tom and cowbell.
Then I add the feet which are playing a "Samba" type of pattern between the two Hi-Hat pedals and the Two Bass drum pedals.
This is joined with some light improvisation with my left hand on the drumset.

In the next section I begin to play a double bass drum pattern on my feet which is in 10/16. Understanding that every two repetitions of a 10/16 rhythm is essentially 5/4.
This 10/16 bass drum pattern is joined by a simple grouping of three 1/16 Notes on the ride cymbal. (1e+ 2e+ 3e+ 4e+)
This is joined with some light improvisation with my left hand on the drumset.

This 10/16 come 5/4 groove is then joined by a 5/16 pattern on the floor toms. Understanding that every four repetitions of a 5/16 rhythm is essentially 5/4.
This is joined with some improvisation with my left hand on the drumset.

The final section is basically the same as the First section, which is:
straight forward Progressive Rock Tom Tom / Bass Drum combinations.
The final four bars are in 3/4.
Fine!!
